The Monarch Butterfly
A while ago Whaea Dayle had a Monarch Butterfly that just hatched from the Pupa Stage. It was an amazing wonder to watch. Here are some photos taken that day.
We were so fascinated by the monarch butterfly...
In New Zealand the Monarch Butterfly is called a "wanderer" Its wings are easily recognisable orange and black pattern, with a wingspan of 8-9cm. The female monarchs have darker veins on their wings and the males have a spot called the androconium in the center of each hind wing. Males are also slightly larger than female monarchs.
